Knob and bezel
In the Highlands and anywhere a range has served twenty years, the knob wears before the valve behind it. The knob pushes onto a flat-sided stem and turns the valve; the bezel is the ring or plate around it that frames and marks the settings. On the 7 Series those rings are lit from behind, glowing while a burner is on.
How they fail
Heat and force break knobs. A pan handle parked over the front edge can soften or crack the plastic, and a knob forced against a sticky valve wears its insert round until it slips. Faded marks are the quiet failure: a simmer setting nobody can find. Before a new knob goes on, the technician checks the valve stem and knob shaft it grips.
